Wildflower Hydroseeding

Location: Hampshire
Area size: 4,000m²
Product: Hydroseeding with Annual Wildflowers
Client: NM Town Council

Project Background

Initially on the outskirts of New Milton. This project formed part of a wider environmental enhancement initiative that aimed to improve roadside aesthetics and support biodiversity through seasonal planting.

We monitored the site throughout the growing season, tracking progress from early establishment through to full flowering. Following this, the client expanded the scheme to multiple additional locations across New Milton due to strong public approval.

Objectives

Primarily, the scheme aimed to enhance visual amenity along key transport corridors. In addition, it aimed to increase local biodiversity by introducing diverse annual wildflower species.

Furthermore, we designed the project to provide a cost-effective and low-maintenance alternative to traditional ornamental planting. At the same time, we aimed to stabilise soil surfaces using a biodegradable hydro-mulch system.

Finally, we set out to test scalability and confirm whether a successful pilot could be replicated across a wider roadside network.

Solutions

We began by preparing the sites and applying a carefully selected annual wildflower seed mix chosen for rapid establishment and strong seasonal colour.

In addition, we applied a recycled paper-based hydro-mulch within the slurry mix. This improved seed adhesion, reduced erosion risk, and helped retain moisture during the early establishment phase.

After application in April, we observed germination within weeks, as green shoots emerged across the treated verges.

As the season progressed, the planting developed steadily, with staggered flowering increasing visual diversity as different species matured.

Ultimately, the sites reached full bloom during peak season, delivering a dense and highly visible floral display along the A337 corridor. As a result of the strong establishment and consistently positive public feedback, the client expanded the scheme from a single pilot location to multiple sites across New Milton, demonstrating both environmental and operational scalability.
